Fun Valentine's Day Craft Ideas & Homemade Valentine Gifts
Make Your Own Labels
Valentine's Day is a special occasion and while there is a great selection of gifts out there that you can purchase, sometimes making your own is just that much more special and meaningful. If making things from scratch isn't your idea of fun, you can still take shop bought things and personalize them by making your own labels. Whether you're giving the gift of wine, beer or jars of treats, you can turn almost anything into a message of love with a label. Get creative, you can design them on your computer or you can hand make them and stick pictures of your recipient on them. Pictures of anything really! Search for love quotes that you can use, or write your own message of love. Don't be afraid to be cheesy or use puns, it's all in the name of love. For beer, how about "I love you beery much" or "love lager – brewed with hugs and kisses." For wine, "love potion" or "live, love, laugh and drink wine." On a jar of honey write "honey for my honey." You get the idea. Put candy in a jar and make your own "sweets for my sweet" label, or make up little bags of love hearts with all the special messages you want to convey and staple a Valentine's Day card to them.
Felt is a great medium for creating brilliant gifts! It's easy to cut and if you don't fancy sewing, then you can use craft glue to hold it together. You can make a great Valentine's wall hanging with felt, some poster board and some decorative buttons or beads. Use pink or red felt and a heart template to cut out 9 hearts. Decorate each heart by gluing a button to the middle and surrounding it with beads. Let your imagination run wild. All you need to do then is evenly space out the hearts in rows of 3 and then glue the bottom part of the heart only to the poster board (just the V) along the edges to form a pocket out of each heart. When the glue is dry, you can use the pockets to put a message of love in, or make your own love vouchers that are good for a massage or a bubble bath; or pretty much any other gesture of romance. You can staple some red ribbon or heart printed ribbon to the top of the poster board on either edge so it can be hung.
Of course the kids want to get involved in Valentine's Day craft fun and the messier the better! Get them to make a Valentine's poster covered in hand prints. Lay out a piece of white poster board and some pink and red paints in flat plastic tubs and let the kids run amok! When the paint is dry, you can write little messages of love from each child on the hand prints. For a 3D effect, using different red and pink poster board, draw around hand little hands on the poster boards and cut them out, sticking them on top of the painted hand prints just slightly off to one side. Use thick glue dots so they are slightly raised from the board. Or if you want the little ones to express their creativity without all the mess, have them make personalized gifts online. Let them add adorable photos to a custom mug or decorate an iPhone case with their own cute sayings and snapshots.
