Mother's Day Activities & Ways to Celebrate Mom
Mother's Day is the perfect chance to give back and let Mom know how much you appreciate her. So in addition to a heartfelt Mother's Day card and a fresh bouquet of flowers, make her day that much more special by planning some fun activities just for her.
Breakfast in Bed
You can start the day with breakfast in bed for Mom, but not too early because she deserves to sleep in. While she's getting extra rest, you can do some of the chores she would usually do on a Sunday so that she doesn't have to worry about them when she gets up.
For moms that love to be pampered, a spa treatment is ideal. You could either do a mother-daughter trip to the spa, or you could make her an appointment with a gift certificate to get her properly set up for a relaxing day.
Instead of the usual Mother's Day lunch at a restaurant this year, why not treat your mom and all the mothers in your family (wife, mother-in-law, grandmother) to an afternoon tea at a swanky hotel. Just make sure you book well in advance! You can also recreate the experience at home and get the whole family involved. The littler ones can offer around plates of sandwiches and cakes, while older children can serve the tea and coffee or pour the champagne. Baking together can be a great family activity too, but if you're not master chef in the kitchen, find a local bakery and pick up something she'll love.
If your mother is a gardening buff, it might be fun to plan a gardening day with her. Start with a trip to the nursery to choose some plants and once back home, you can help her plant the new flowers and do some of the bigger jobs, like raking, mowing the lawn, weeding and turning over the soil. Even if gardening is not your thing, she'll be sure to appreciate the thought.
And if your mom isn't into gardening, think about some other way that you can get involved in one of her hobbies. Try going on a shopping and lunch date, a trip to the store to buy some yarn for her knitting or visit a craft shop. You could even do a cooking class together, an art class, jewelry making class, wine tasting or even a yoga class — the options are endless.
For Mothers Miles Away
If your family is scattered around the globe, why not set up a Skype video call with everyone. You can have every household join in. Teach your mom how to use the technology ahead of time so she can participate. Whatever you can do to spend quality time with your mother this Mother's Day, she's bound to appreciate. Any of these activity ideas are sure to make this year's Mother's Day truly special.
