Unique Ways to Celebrate Your Anniversary & Creative Anniversary Date Ideas
Most anniversary dates, although romantic, can be a little unimaginative – dinner for two at a favorite restaurant, movie night, a picnic, etc. This year, surprise your partner with something a little out of the ordinary. It doesn't necessarily have to cost an arm and a leg either.
Recreate Your First Date
For an inexpensive anniversary date idea, why not travel back in time? You don't need a time machine for this trip either. If you're able to, visit a place that has special memories for you – the place you went on your first date or the venue where you had your wedding reception. If that's not possible, try and recreate the experience at home. Was your first date at an Italian restaurant? Get out the checkered table cloth and the wine bottle candle holder and create the ambience at home. Make a sign with the restaurant's name on it and print out menus and serve a simple Italian meal. End the evening by sitting together on the sofa and going through all those old photographs and reminisce about the fun times. You can even surprise your sweetheart with a personalized anniversary card that features photographs from when the two of you were younger. When life gets busy, it's easy to forget all the wonderful things you've experienced together and a reminder never hurts.
Do Something They Want to Do
Sometimes love is all about giving. For a special anniversary date, arrange something your partner has always wanted to do, but that you haven't been particularly keen on. Or if you don't want to spend a day of something you don't enjoy, then how about splitting it? Each of you gets to arrange one thing that you love doing that the other doesn't and then you do each of them together. Who knows, one of you may discover something new to enjoy. You'll definitely learn something new about each other though.
Renew Your Vows
If it's a really special number anniversary, you might want to pull out all the stops and renew your vows. Make it as big or small an event as you like. If you had a big wedding, a small and intimate exchanging of vows may be just the thing. If you eloped, you may want all your friends and family at your renewal so they can share in your happiness.
More Anniversary Date Ideas
There are loads of other ways to celebrate an anniversary. Here are a few more ideas:
- A champagne ride in a hot air balloon.
- A helicopter trip over your own city.
- If you're near a vineyard, go on a wine tour and end it with a meal there.
- Always wanted to learn the Tango? Take a dance class together.
- If you're both foodies, do a cooking class together and learn a new cuisine. If you honeymooned in Mexico, then recreate the experience by taking a Mexican cooking class.
Just remember that anniversaries are more than commemorating the years you've spent together – they are also about creating new memories together.
